Second Attempt

May 7, 2008

Here’s another attempt at the How We Came to Live Here cover, based on feedback from Jason Morningstar and John Harper. I tried to keep all my original elements (ladder, kokopelli, text elements), but build a simpler and more unified design while keeping that “anthropology fieldwork report” look that Brennan wanted. For references to the latter, check out this one and that one.

More feedback is always welcome.

I think the photo loses a bit of it’s impact when the top is cut off like this. I do kind of like the lighter box with kokopelli in the background.

  2. Jmstar Says:

No light hole, no kiva. If you love the photo get rid of the boxen. If you love the boxen get rid of the photo. If you love both make two covers.

  3. Emily Says:

I prefer the first, also. The stairs leading into the light from the darkness is stronger. This is simpler, but in a way that seems like there is less to look at, rather than focussing the attention on the elements there.

I do like the images though. Overall, a good looking cover indeed.
